Rooted in Community, Driven by Impact

Aidability Foundation is a registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with a clear mission to empower children with disabilities in rural and underserved communities. Our commitment and operational focus are deeply rooted in local government areas across Nigeria.

We are here to improve the lives of children with disabilities in rural communities by supporting those who have never been to school, dropped out prematurely, or live in poverty. We focus on children aged 0-17, providing them with appropriate assistive technology to help them live fully.

From Compassion to Commitment

Amba Davies’ journey to support children with disabilities began in 2023 with a desire to help a child living with a disability. This search led to meeting Destiny, a 17-year-old wheelchair user from Rivers State who had lost her father and faced learning disabilities. Despite struggling with an inappropriate wheelchair and lacking proper education, Destiny’s situation highlighted the urgent need for suitable assistive technology.

Connecting with Destiny led Amba to discover many more children in similar situations. In the neighboring state of Bayelsa, two children, Franca and Sarah, were found with cerebral palsy, also lacking access to essential aids. It became evident that many children in rural communities had never been diagnosed or received the help they needed. The importance of early intervention was clear, as these children faced discrimination and stigma, often dropping out of school and being hidden away due to financial constraints and lack of specialized services.

Seeing this immense need, Amba decided to establish Aidability Foundation in March 2024. The goal was simple: to bridge the gap and provide the assistive products to children who need them the most. This personal mission has now become a dedicated effort to serve children with disabilities in rural communities across Nigeria.

Approach

We start with the child—their laughter, resilience, and unique journey. Each one matters deeply to us.

Our approach is child-centered, focusing on early intervention with assistive technology. When a child’s eyes light up using their assistive product for the first time, we know we’re changing their world.
We believe the best solutions come from the communities we serve. By teaming up with primary health centres, schools, and families, we make sure that assistive technology is not only accessible but also sustainable. Our work in the community helps create spaces where kids can do well and develop, with the support of a network that gets them and helps them out.

A Strategic Investment

Supporting children with disabilities by providing assistive technology isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s smart. When these children are left out, we all miss out on their potential. Helping them gain access to the right assistive device not only opens up educational opportunities but also boosts economic growth and social progress.

Our commitment to children with disabilities in Nigeria fuels our drive to maximize impact

Prioritizing access to assistive technology, especially in underserved rural areas, transforms healthcare provision and paves the way for a future where every child can make meaningful contributions to society.

Impact

Our journey with assistive technology (AT) is all about ensuring every child receives comprehensive assessments and the right assistive products. We know that many children don’t get properly assessed or receive the correct products due to various barriers. We want to change that.

We’ve teamed up with health centers and key stakeholders , working together to support and empower children in all 23 local government areas. This collaboration is the heart of our work. Once we achieve our objectives here, we’re excited to expand our efforts to other states.

Initiatives have been launched across communities, each bringing us closer to our vision of transforming lives through assistive technology.

Vision

Every child with a disability will have the opportunity to reach their full potential through access to assistive technology.

Values

We are inclusive, collaborative, and compassionate, ensuring that children’s needs are met with care and understanding.
